With Sun Egypt, your tour guide will meet you at your hotel and begin your journey to the West Bank of Luxor. Our first stop will be the most northerly mortuary temple on the West Bank, the Million Year Temple of Seti I. Although construction began during the reign of Seti I, it was completed by his son Ramesses II.
There are a host of deities honored here, but the Theban triad of Amun, Mut and Khonsu are the most important, each with its own sailboat shrine, and there is also a shrine dedicated to Seti’s father Ramesses I.
Next, on your daily Luxor tours, we will visit the house of Howard Carter, who discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The house has been restored and you can wander through the rooms and see the furniture, equipment and household items that Carter used while in Egypt. Carter’s original desk, library and objects related to the excavation of the pharaoh’s tomb are also on display.
Finally, we visit the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Merneptah, the 13th son and successor of Ramesses II. The temple complex was a typical New Kingdom funerary temple similar to the Ramesseum that belonged to his grandfather Seti I and Ramesses II. Although little remains of the structure remain, a miniature sacred lake and many well-preserved blocks, wall fragments and blocks can still be seen on display within the complex. During your day trip to Egypt, you will enjoy all this and learn a lot.
The complex includes a small museum in the magazines with many interesting artifacts including part of a huge limestone sphinx and a jackal-headed sphinx.
At the end of the tour, your guide will return you to your hotel.
